Robert C. Block, MD, MPH, FACP is a graduate of Cook College at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Environmental Sciences. He received his Medical Degree from New Jersey Medical School within the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed a Transitional Medicine Internship at the Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies at Michigan State University and then an Internal Medicine Residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Block completed a Masters of Public Health, an NHLBI-sponsored Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Biostatistics/Preventive Cardiology (T32), and a K30 Certificate in Clinical Research, all at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Dr. Block is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Community and Preventive Medicine, at the University of Rochester. He carries secondary appointments in the Cardiology Division within the Department of Medicine where he practices preventive cardiology and clinical Lipidology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. His preventive cardiology practice draws patients from as far East as Utica, South as far as the Pennsylvania border, and West as far as the Buffalo region. He also holds a secondary appointment in the Center for Community Health at the University of Rochester. Dr. Block is Managing Co-Director of the Upstate New York Translational Research Network, a consortium of sixteen Upstate New York institutions supported by the University of Rochester’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute. He is Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention Course and Co-Director of the Chronic Disease Epidemiology and Prevention Course in the Graduate Education Programs within the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine.

Dr. Block has been Principal Investigator for a local clinical trial sponsored by the University of Rochester’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute investigating the synergistic effects of omega-3 fatty acids and aspirin on platelet function in healthy individuals. He is the recipient of a Career Development Award in Clinical and Translational Research from the University of Rochester’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Dr. Block is currently Principal Investigator for a National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-sponsored R21 clinical trial and a GlaxoSmithKline-sponsored clinical trial, both focused on the synergistic effects of omega-3 fatty acids and aspirin on platelet function in individuals with diabetes mellitus and acute coronary syndromes. Dr. Block has published many primary research and review papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as book chapters focused on cardiovascular disease prevention.
